Adipex (phentermine) is an appetite suppressant that can be used along with a diet and regular exercise. Combining Adipex with weight loss drugs, such as fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine, can result in pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the arteries that supply the lungs). This condition is potentially fatal. Keep track of how many tablets you have already taken to make sure other people do not access your medicine. Adipex has been reported to form a habit and should be therefore used only by people to whom it was prescribed and only during the period of time recommended.
Adipex is usually prescribed for only short periods of time, as its long-term use can lead to insomnia, severe skin problems, irritability and hyperactivity. If you have to stop your treatment it is recommended to do so gradually, taking less and less of Adipex every day. Otherwise you may experience such symptoms as depression and extreme tiredness. Do not take Adipex if you recently used any MAO inhibitor (isocarboxazid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine), as this can cause a life-threatening interaction. Make sure at least 14 days pass between these two drugs. Only then you can safely take Adipex.
